Coventry University, HDTI Building
Project Description
Brief
The Health Design Technology Institute is a broadly based partnership led by Coventry University and includes City College, NHS Trust (Walsgrave), NHS Scanning Unit (Birmingham University), West Midlands medilink, MidTECH and Age concern. The project will create an innovative test and supply centre for healthcare products and the health services sector. The University requires a landmark building at a major entrance to its Technology Park on the Ring Road. Part of a two phase masterplan, this first building, the
Institute, will provide 2,000sq.m. of space with 45 parking spaces and associated landscaping.
Solution
A three storey L- shaped arrangement providing research & workshop space for product testing, seminar and training rooms for community-based healthcare practitioners and carers, and academic offices. Business startup units are also provided to assist emerging companies with product development. In order to encourage interaction between users the building is open to a central atrium space, which can be populated with break-out spaces, cafe areas and quiet working areas. The project is jointly funded by Advantage West Midlands.
